GBC Malaysia Batizado 2005

It looks like Mestre Pintor, Formado Gringo, and Instrutor Canguru from GBC Brasil and Australia will be flying into Malaysia early September for the GBC Malaysia Batizado and Festival Bantus 2005.

There will also be Mestres and Instructors from various other groups from the South East Asia region, and probably Instrutor Claudinho from GBC Brasil soon to start GBC in Singapore, so rumor has it.

The GBC MY batizado is set for September 10th, and their Noite Brasileira Capoeira, Samba, and Maculele show will either be before or after the batizado.

GBC MY have been very successful ever since they imported Instrutor Rafael over from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Rafael has been working hard to make the group strong, and has himself been studying hard to learn English and adjust to the way of life.

The students of GBC MY are very passionate about capoeira, and Grupo Bantus. They now have their very own 24/7 capoeira academia, painted out in the GBC colours. You can follow the progress of the group on their highly popular blog here.

If all goes to plan, I will be flying over to Malaysia to join my great friends in Kuala Lumpur to help celebrate their important day, and also to check out their new academia. It will also be a reunion of sorts, with Formado Gringo (my first Brazilian capoeira professor in Australia), Instrutor Canguru (my first capoeira professor in Australia), and Rafael (one of my Brazilian capoeira professors in Brazil). Of course, it will be awesome to catch up with the great Mestre Pintor once again.

If you’re interested in coming along for an unforgettable experience, please let me know soon. I’m planning on staying for at least a week, and will probably fly into Singapore to meet the GBC alunos there and then take the bus up to KL.

Nothing has been confirmed or set in stone yet, so please stay tuned for more…
