Well, I’ve finally uploaded a selection of photos from the GBC Malaysia Batizado back in mid-September 2005. Thanks to Mico and Sung for taking the photos. You can really feel the excitment, joy, and axé in these pics. Thanks to Mestre Pintor, Formado Gringo, Instrutors Canguru, Claudinho, and Rafael, and all the beautiful people of Grupo Bantus Capoeira Asia/Australia for making this batizado one we’ll always remember.

  2. 2 Takeshinho

    Sabao!
Does your name mean “soap” in portugues?
    saba~o?

  3. 3 Cacapa

That’s right Takeshinho, but I’ll let Sabao tell the story about how he got that nickname. Take it away Sabao…

well i had an accident at the start of the year during training where i dislocated my elbow… gringo thinks i slipped over and thus the name “sabao”

he also reckons that everytime i go to training, i’m always clean and tidy (looking like i just came out of a shower)… so really, it doesn’t have anything to do with how i play capoeira at all

    Saba~o, Prazer conhescer!
Are you always looking like just get out of a shower when you start training?
I and Spagetti are always looking like just get into shower with our clothes on while training.
    Wet with sweat.
Did it take time to recover from dislocation of elbow?
I also should be careful to avoid get injured.
I can hardly imagine weekend without Capoeira.

Nice to meet you too takeshinho… no, i don’t always look like i just stepped out of a shower when i go to training but like you, as soon as the ginga starts, i start sweating like mad… it took 10 agonizing weeks for my elbow to heal up before i could start training again… i use to go to the academy with my metal arm hinge looking like the bionic man and just watch training… really painful not being able to play… like you said, be careful but accidents do happen so nothing can stop that… however, i did learn some new songs while i was out of action
