Who Are We?
Grupo Bantus Capoeira Japão is a non-profit capoeira group based in Tokyo, Japan under the guidance of the respected Paulo Cesar Leite dos Santos (Mestre Pintor) from our headquarters in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We are a truly international group here in Tokyo, having members from all over the world as well as many Japanese students. Classes are taught in English, Japanese, and Portuguese. Together with our overseas branches in Brazil, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Germany, Holland, and Israel we have about a thousand dedicated members.
Our members are predominately healthy, energetic, positive, and out-going young men and women, students and professionals, aged between 15-30 years old. We love travelling, and we thirst for knowledge and world experience. We often get involved in community projects supporting underprivileged, homeless, and orphaned youth. We respect the environment and are conscious of international issues that affect our world and our community. We have performed at world class events along side internationally famous musical artists, as well as small community festivals supporting grassroots projects. We have also appeared on television, in magazines, and newspapers. Above all, we love capoeira, and we love spreading the healthy, positive, joyful message of this wonderful art.
What Do We Do?
Here in Japan we have classes three-four times a week. We also hold capoeira workshops and performances for local community groups. We host a monthly capoeira event, and regular free outdoor events as well as social get-togethers. We are hoping to expand our operations in the near future. Our goal is to host a full-time instructor from Brazil here in Tokyo. We will run classes 5-7 days a week, two classes per day, including exclusive Kids and Women’s classes. We will continue holding classes in our dance studios, and develop classes to suit Sports Gyms and Elementary, Junior, and High Schools.
