About this blog

If you don’t already have your own blog, then you probably have at least bookmarked some favourite blogs, or at the very least, heard the word blog a million times by now.
A blog is like an online diary, or journal. more here (Nihongo)

But the real power of the blog lies in RSS (Nihongo) or “Really Simple Syndication” to push news directly to an application on the reader’s computer.

I’ve been using Mozilla Firefox (Japan) ever since a friend recommended me to check it out. It even has this thing called “Live Bookmarks” (Ninhongo) that automatically downloads the latest news from your favourite blog and lists it in your bookmarks menu everytime you open your Web browser.

Another cool thing about blogs is you can leave a comment just about anywhere, and let other people know what you’re thinking.

As far as we know, this is the most updated capoeira blog on the internet, and not only can you keep up-to-date with Upcoming Events, you can also Live Bookmark our flickr photos and keep up to date with the schedule if you’re using our Google Calendar!

Festival Cinema Brasil 2006

Festival Cinema Brasil 2006 opened today and runs till September 24th, 2006.

There’s heaps of great Brazilian movies on offer, so make sure you head down to the Tokyo International Forum and catch some great cinema.

One to keep your eyes open for is Madame Satã, a film about a carioca capoeirista fighting to survive in 1930s Rio de Janeiro.

Back in Japão

Oi galera!
I got back home 5pm Friday 8th, and classes recommenced Saturday 9th.
It was a really long trip back to Tokyo from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, but I managed to avoid any jetlag.
Cafune and I bought back with us a handful of berimbaus, some pandeiros, and lots of new capoeira pants for sale! They’ll be ready for sale soon. The berimbaus were handmade by Mestre Pintor and Mestre Jaime de Mar Grande, and we have a few cabaças specially hand pyrographed with the Bantus logo. They look awesome even if I say so myself!
We’ve got heaps of shows coming up soon, so keep training hard, we’ll have some special guests dropping in from Bantus Australia, and I’m really inspired to do some more street rodas in Kichijoji.
Mestre Pintor says capoeira is not something to be confined to the classroom or studio. It comes from the streets, and it should be played on the street, a thing of the people, for the people. So let’s share the Bantus spirit in Kichijoji.
More details on the upcoming shows really soon. In the meantime check out the photos from the Bantus Festival in Brazil here and here.

Japanese TV crew coming to class!

Rumour has it this Saturday or Sunday there may be a Japanese TV crew coming to class. So please wear your Bantus uniform or street clothes, arrive on time, and bring lots of axé!

Don’t forget these awesome Bantus events happening this weekend:

Saturday: Capoeira Basics Class at Event Hall Musashino 7pm-9pm with special guest from Bantus Singapore. Followed by the Rooftop Yukata BBQ Party.
Sunday: Sunday capoeira class at San Chu, boa viagem roda, followed by Boa Viagem Party in Kichijoji.

Brazil Trip 2006 Notice

We’ll be picking up some beautiful berimbaus and pandeiros in Brazil. Let us know if you’d like to buy some authentic Brazilian capoeira instruments at a reasonable price. We won’t charge crazy prices like some other places in Japan.

We’re going to be donating 2nd hand clothes and health care products to our friends living in the favelas (ghettos) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. If you have any clean 2nd hand clothes or would like to put together a small healthcare kit (toothbrushes, toothpaste, condoms etc) please get in contact with us so we can make some space in our backpacks.

Another TV crew coming to class! (update)

The TV crew from Channelnewsasia, Singapore will be coming to the Sunday class only, not Saturday class as previously advertised. Please wear your white bantus capoeira uniform for Sunday’s class.
But don’t feel let down, because after Saturday night’s class we’ll all be heading to a rooftop BBQ party at one of Tokyo’s coolest apartments!! BYO food and drinks. Email me for more details.

Another TV crew coming to class!

This Saturday/Sunday July 1st/2nd we may have a TV crew from Singapore at class. So please arrive on time, wear your Bantus uniform, and bring lots of axé!
