Festival Mundial Bantus Capoeira 2006

Well, I’ve finally uploaded the photos from Cafune’s digital camera onto our flickr site. You can check out the whole album here.

The festival delivered all that is promised and more! From August 21st to 27th it was non-stop capoeira 24 hours a day.

From the moment we stepped off the plane in Belo Horizonte to the final roda at Mestre Pintor’s holiday home in Casa Branca, we trained, played, learned, ate, slept, dreamt, and shopped capoeira!

The seven bantulinos from Tokyo were Caçapa, Cafune, Mico, Quati, Lanterna, Coruja, and Cotonete. Yoshiko, Noriko, and Hiroshi received their new nicknames at their batizado in Brazil!

Back in Japão

Oi galera!
I got back home 5pm Friday 8th, and classes recommenced Saturday 9th.
It was a really long trip back to Tokyo from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, but I managed to avoid any jetlag.
Cafune and I bought back with us a handful of berimbaus, some pandeiros, and lots of new capoeira pants for sale! They’ll be ready for sale soon. The berimbaus were handmade by Mestre Pintor and Mestre Jaime de Mar Grande, and we have a few cabaças specially hand pyrographed with the Bantus logo. They look awesome even if I say so myself!
We’ve got heaps of shows coming up soon, so keep training hard, we’ll have some special guests dropping in from Bantus Australia, and I’m really inspired to do some more street rodas in Kichijoji.
Mestre Pintor says capoeira is not something to be confined to the classroom or studio. It comes from the streets, and it should be played on the street, a thing of the people, for the people. So let’s share the Bantus spirit in Kichijoji.
More details on the upcoming shows really soon. In the meantime check out the photos from the Bantus Festival in Brazil here and here.

World Cup 2006

Two goals to Tim Cahill and another to John Aloisi sealed Australia's win in its first World Cup appearance since 1974 after it trailed for most of the match to a disputed Japanese goal.

Thanks Metropolis Magazine

Here’s a little sneak peek behind the scenes at GBC Japão:

Metropolis Magazine Logo

As part of our advertising campaign for the upcoming Saturday Class in Kichijoji! we’ve paid for an ad to be published in the Metropolis Magazine Classifieds section.

Advertising is one of those necessary expenses that you need to think about really cafeully when promoting your capoeira group. Sure, there’s plenty of ways to advertise for free, the best way is to do public street rodas. That being one of the things that makes Grupo Bantus Capoeira different from other groups. Mestre Pintor’s philosophy is to make capoeira accessible to everyone, not just “those in the know”. So expect at lot of public rodas in Inokashira Park as soon as the weather heats up!
