GBCJ Roots Festival 2011

Schedule

Graduado Caçapa has an awesome capoeira program for the long weekend of Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th, September 2011.

Friday and Saturday includes an intensive 2 day course covering all aspects of Bantus Capoeira Culture.

The course will cover:

  • The roots and history of capoeira.
  • Capoeira Angola
  • Capoeira Regional
  • Capoeira Instruments, Music and Singing
  • Samba de Roda
  • Maculelê
  • Forró

On Sunday we’ll be presenting capoeira in our local Inokashira Park at MISHOP WORLD FESTIVAL 2011. After dinner we’ll visit Axé da Bahia‘s open roda in Kichijoji.

We’ll be watching exclusive documentaries, sampling some powerful Brazilian food, learning many new things about capoeira and also getting to know other GBCJ members.

It will be an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Here’s the program:

Friday 23rd September, 2011

Time: 1.00pm – 10.30pm

Location: Mitaka Dai San Chugakkou Junior High School

Theme: 1.00pm-8.30pm: Roots and History of Capoeira. Capoeira Angola. Samba de Roda. Forró. 9.30pm-10.30pm: Dinner at Brazilian restaurant in Kichijoji.

Clothes: Colour capoeira pants, indoor capoeira shoes, GBC capoeira t-shirt.
Please no white capoeira pants with cord or sleeveless t-shirts.

What to Bring: Bring a spare GBC t-shirt and change of clothes, sweat towel, sports drink etc. Bring your capoeira instruments and GBCJ members book!

Saturday 24th September, 2011

Time: 2.00pm – 10.30pm

Location: Mitaka Dai San Chugakkou Junior High School

Theme: 2.00pm-3.00pm: Roda do Mês. 3.00pm-8.30pm: Roots and History of GBCJ. Capoeira Regional. Maculelê. 9.30pm-10.30pm: Street Roda/Dinner

Clothes: Outdoor capoeira shoes, White GBC capoeira pants with cord, GBC capoeira t-shirt.

What to Bring: Bring a spare GBC t-shirt and change of clothes, sweat towel, sports drink etc Bring your capoeira instruments and GBCJ members book!

Sunday 25th September, 2011

Time: 1.30pm – 11.00pm

Location: Inokashira West Park

Theme: 1.30pm-2.30pm: Park Roda. 2.30pm-3.00pm: MISHOP WORLD FESTIVAL 2011 (Free capoeira workshop for the public). Roda Time/Free Time/Dinner Time. 9.30pm-11.00pm: Axé da Bahia Open Roda.

Clothes: Outdoor capoeira shoes, White GBC pants with cord, GBCJ uniform t-shirt for MISHOP.

What to Bring: Bring a spare GBC t-shirt and change of clothes, sweat towel, sports drink etc

Cost: 5000yen

I’m really looking forward to this amazing weekend of capoeira. I think it will be fascinating look into the world of capoeira and an unmissable event for all GBCJ members! I’m counting on your participation and co-operation to make this event unforgettable.

Bantus Capoeira Japan on Food Nation

On September 26th, 2010 Grupo Bantus Capoeira Japan was invited to perform and teach a free capoeira workshop at the MISHOP Festival in Inokashira Park, Tokyo, Japan.

The crew from The Moving Visuals Company was there to capture some of the action for their “Food Nation” television program shown in Singapore and South East Asia.

Thanks to the advances in online video sharing and continuous improvements on YouTube we are proud to present, for the first time, the entire batizado video!!!

Shot on tripod with Professor Rafael’s HDD Camcorder, the video is an audience’s point of view of the batizado. Some parts of the batizado are missing from the video.

We will be publishing video from other cameras soon, and will have a professionally produced digest of the batizado from We All Japan shortly.

I can’t wait to see that!
